Jason Higgins creates satirical graphic arts that combine verbal and visual puns to make you think twice. He offered some artworks for only 50 cents each in an LYPC capsule vending machine.

Higgins was one of about 150 artists showing their work at the Crafty Bastards! Arts & Crafts Fair sponsored by the Washington City Paper on October 3, 2009. The artists booths were crammed into the play yard at the Marie Reed Learning Center in Washington, DC's hip Adams Morgan neighborhood.

Higgins stood serenely in the center of his Hogmalion booth as I approached to see what he was selling in his vending machine: capsules containing corks decorated with comic illustations of porn stars. The display card inside the machine enticed, "Collect All Four! Hard Cork Action XXX" With typical Higgins wit, five different corks were displayed.

Higgins offered other corks and cork wine stoppers at higher prices in boxed sets and individually:

  • The Four Corksmen of The Apocalypse: major players from the Bush administration
  • Supreme Cork Justice: past and present Supreme Court justices
  • And others

The rugged 20" LYPC Big Pro Vendor should last a lifetime for Higgins. He can upgrade its 50¢ mechanism to 75¢ or $1 if he wants to chase the carriage trade.

You can view and purchase artwork by Jason Higgins at his Hogmalion web site.
